November 24, 2009

New research shows many women with multiple sclerosis shouldn't worry about getting pregnant.

The new Stanford University study says while women with MS have a somewhat higher risk for complications, by and large, their pregnancies are just as healthy as other women's.

The findings are based on a National Database with information on nearly nineteen million deliveries.

Researchers found forty two percent of women with MS who gave birth between 2003 and 2006 had a C-section.

That's compared to about thirty three percent of women overall.

The authors say the findings should reassure women with MS, a disorder that is most common among women in their child bearing years.

The findings appear in the journal "Neurology."
