New research shows you can delay and even prevent diabetes for at least 10 years.
A new report from the National Institute Of Diabetes And Digestive And Kidney Diseases says it can be done by changing your lifestyle.
Doctors followed nearly 2,800 people at risk of diabetes.
Researchers found those who underwent intensive lifestyle interventions, like losing weight and getting more exercise, reduced their risk of developing diabetes by 58%.
They also saw a risk reduction in people taking Metformin, a popular prescription drug to treat type two diabetes.
Researchers say it is possible to delay diabetes onset for at least 10 years, but while the results are encouraging, they say more research is needed.
The study appears in the journal "The Lancet."
